People keep calling us Mt. Pleasant’s hidden gem. We’ve decided to own it.
Not because we’re hard to find, we’re right on Johnnie Dodds Blvd. But because what’s inside doesn’t look like anything else in the area, and enough people have walked in expecting one thing and left genuinely surprised, we figure it’s time to just tell you directly: this place is different.
Here’s what we mean by that.
You’ve got Ardoa doing self-serve wine tech over at Seaside Farms. The Wine Bar has its 80+ wine SKUs and loyal regulars. Charlotte’s Wine Bar has a gorgeous interior and a growing scene. Tavern & Table with waterfront views and an established name. Neat Bourbon Bar is doing charcuterie and craft pours. Savì Cucina with its Italian wine program and Yelp rankings.
All solid spots. We respect every one of them.
But here’s what none of them have — all in the same room: a raw bar and fresh seafood menu, a build-your-own charcuterie board, a retail market you can shop before or after your meal, live music, THC and specialty beverages alongside a full liquor selection, and a kitchen that turns out food people drive across Charleston for.
That’s not a flex. It’s just what’s here.
So here’s the actual answer to what kind of place is this?
It’s a Restaurant. It’s a Bar. It’s a Market. It’s All of Those Things at Once.
The Reserve Tavern is located at 665 Johnnie Dodds Blvd in Mt. Pleasant, SC, and it sits connected to The ABC Store / The Reserve, which means you walk into a place that has a market full of carefully selected wine, beer, liquor, and specialty items, and a full kitchen and bar. That combination isn’t something you stumble across very often in the Charleston area.
The restaurant kitchen runs Monday through Thursday from 3:30 pm to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11:30 am to 10 pm, and the market is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 am to 9 pm. Sundays, we’re closed, so come Saturday if you’ve been putting it off.
What’s Actually on the Menu?
Let’s talk food, because that’s usually what people want to know.
The menu is built around the idea that you shouldn’t have to choose between quality and comfort. There are starters like stuffed mushrooms (baby bells filled with shrimp stuffing, served in a mushroom sauce), meatball trios, tuna tartare, and the kind of Bavarian pretzel with cheese sauce that makes you forget you ordered it as an appetizer and realize halfway through that you’ve almost eaten a whole meal.
There’s a lobster roll, fresh poached lobster tail, served warm on a brioche bun with drawn butter. At $29, it’s the kind of dish people come back for specifically. One reviewer from Las Vegas said it plainly: “succulent, buttery, and PERFECT.” Someone who’s eaten in Vegas knows a good lobster roll when they have one.
The baked flounder involtini is stuffed with spinach and shrimp, and it shows up in reviews constantly. There’s a reason for that. The kitchen does it right every time.
If you’re in the mood for a burger, the Reserve Double Cheeseburger is a double smash with American cheese and all the classics, at $14 with a side. It’s honest and delicious.
Then there’s the pizza situation. We make Neapolitan-style pizza from house-made dough using Italian 00 flour, hand-tossed, cooked up to 700 degrees. That’s not a gimmick, that’s how you get a proper crust. Gluten-free pizza is also available.
Sandwiches include a short rib sandwich with wine-braised short rib and caramelized onions, a meatball sub, and The Italian Stallion (mortadella, Genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone, the works). The caprese sandwich with bacon has its own fan club at this point; one regular came back two Fridays in a row specifically for it.

The Charcuterie Board is Worth Talking About Separately
We’re going to give this its own section because it keeps coming up in reviews, and it deserves it.
The charcuterie experience here is customizable; you pick the cheeses and meats you want, and the board comes loaded with fruits, jams, pickles, olives, honey, and warm bread alongside them. It’s not a sparse, decorative board. It’s a proper spread.
One guest compared it to charcuterie they’d had in Spain. Another said it was the best they’d had in the Charleston area, full stop. If you come in for drinks and share a board, you’ll likely end up staying for dinner. Fair warning.
About the Bar
The bar is the heartbeat of the room. We have a solid tap selection, an extensive wine list, a retail floor full of bottles for sale (and yes, you can ask for recommendations), and bartenders who actually know their stuff.
Cocktails here are thoughtful and balanced. A recent reviewer put it well: they described the cocktails as “next-level balanced, creative, and dangerously easy to drink.” The staff is the kind that regulars know their names and first-timers feel like regulars by the end of the night.
We’ve had live music. We’ve had wine tastings on weekday evenings. We run Bluepoint oyster specials that bring people back week after week. The nitro cold brew coffee has its own following, which is a detail that genuinely surprised us, but shouldn’t have.
The Atmosphere, Honestly
It’s not trying to be anything it isn’t.
The space is cozy. It was recently renovated and has a warm, inviting feel, good lighting, comfortable seating, the kind of place you can linger without feeling rushed. It’s not a loud club. It’s not a stuffy fine dining room. It’s somewhere in the middle, which is exactly where most people want to be when they’re eating well and having a good time.
People describe it as a hidden gem pretty consistently. Not because it’s hard to find, it’s right on Johnnie Dodds, but because the quality of the food and the warmth of the staff isn’t something you’d necessarily expect walking in for the first time.
The owner has been known to come out and chat with guests personally. The kitchen staff has been known to cook for people when they didn’t have to. That’s the kind of place this is.
Who’s It For?
Date night? Yes. The food and atmosphere hold up completely.
Dinner with friends? Absolutely. Share the charcuterie, order multiple things, stay a while.
Solo seat at the bar? Easily one of the better spots for it in Mt. Pleasant. You won’t feel out of place, and you’ll probably end up in a good conversation.
A quick lunch stop? The sandwiches and small plates make it work.
A celebration? The wine selection and kitchen can handle it.
The honest answer is that it works for almost any occasion because the baseline food quality, service, and atmosphere are consistently high. That’s harder to find than it sounds.
